What is Live for Speed?

Live for Speed is a small development team dedicated to making the best online racing simulator. Our current release is S2 with which we attempt to recreate the thrill and fun of real racing, by simulating all aspects important to racing. Varying racing environments and cars which can be setup by an abundance of options - all on your home pc.

So what will you find in LFS S2? The DEMO allows you access to 3 cars and one racing environment that has both a road and rallycross course, available in both directions. The cars available are a front wheel drive hatchback, and one rear wheel drive car which is also available in a turbo version.
The FULL version, adds five more racing environments, a big test area and 15 additional cars - The test area contains many configurations; a skidpad and an autocross area, including an editor to create your own autocross tracks.

I don't know of LFS's minimum or required pc spec's, but i run a AMD athlon xp 1.2GHz cpu, 1GB of Kingston DDR ram, windows XP, lots of programs and a Nvidia Geforce FX5700LE, and it runs perfectly, but i cant have too many bots racing or i get alot of lag.

Live for speed is a free game, as a Demo, the S1 liscense for a few more cars and tracks cost £12, and a S2 liscence cost £24, giving you everything,
Live for speed is a racing simulator that is for new generation racers, you can race with Wheels, Keyboards and even your mouse! there are alot of cars to pick from, you can tune your car to out-perform any other racer, you can tune for sillyness, you can race online, and you even have a lesson section were you do individual tasks and races to get use to your vehicles!

Overview

The premise of Porsche Unleashed remains largely the same: Driving and racing sports cars. However, the game only offers Porsches as racing vehicles. The cars handled more realistically than in any other Need For Speed game, and there is an in-depth catalogue of different Porsche parts that span throughout the years. Although the game inherited police chases from Hot Pursuit and High Stakes, the feature is relatively minor and is only seen in the Factory Driver mode (see Modes).

In terms of game construction, Porsche Unleashed is most often hailed as NFS's best collaborated effort to bring forth one singular car brand and amplify and deepen the depth of knowledge both on history and motor functions. It features historical videos and many pictures of old photos of Porsche vehicles. The Evolution concept was a hit for many people, creating many new Porsche fans due to the game's high level of academia and depth of Porsche cars.[citation needed] The Factory Driver was also a different kind of unlocking, except to do with performing and excelling in certain slaloms, speed races, deliveries, etc. Many of the missions were considered to be really difficult; anyone who manages to finish Factory Driver can be called a great "computer" driver.

Modes

Factory Driver - The player has to test Porsches with various stunts and move on with his career.
Evolution - Unlocks cars (by purchasing them) in chronological order from 1950 to 2000, advancing through time by completing races and circuits.

Cars

The range of cars featured in Porsche Unleashed consists solely of a majority of Porsches produced between 1950 and 2000, and are all divided into eras (Classic, Golden, and Modern), which are in turn divided into class ranging from 3 (lowest) to 1 (highest), with the additional Race class. Porsche Unleashed begins by offering a scattered selection of a few models across all eras, and requires that the player play both the Evolution mode and Factory Driver mode in order to gain access to cars. Purchased cars from Evolution mode would be listed in the main menu's inventory, while cars from Factory Driver (which are simply standard Porsches from different eras with custom paintwork) are awarded to the player when a particular challenge is completed successfully.

Road Legal Models

The bulk of cars featured in the game consist of road-legal Porsche sports cars, most notably those from the 356 and 911 range, which make up a sizable number of cars offered in the game. They include:

Two or more body variants are offered for the many in the 356 and 911 series, ranging from coupés to cabriolets and targa top versions; aside the cosmetic differences, the body styles affect the handling of the car, due to their different degrees of rigidity. The game also goes includes internally different variants, such as four-wheel drive versions (known as the Carrera 4 series) for later models, which possess better handling than its rear-wheel drive counterparts. Because of this, the number of cars offered is significantly higher (an estimated total of 86 cars) than the fundamental range of models included in the game, although each car may vary in performance.

Tracks

Races take place in 14 tracks in various locales in Europe, ranging from farmland, to forests, to urban areas. Point-to-point routes introduced in The Need for Speed return to form a majority of racing tracks in game, although several tracks based in one location are circuits. Many of the tracks also include extensive shortcuts, alternative routes and open paths. All tracks can be raced in any of the four combinations of forwards/backwards and regular/mirrored; this is only configurable in Quick Race mode.

Alps: Located in highlands that stretches across snow-capped terrain and falling snow.
Autobahn: A highway system as it rains.
Auvergne: Located along old ruins and a walled medieval city.
Corsica: A sunny seaside network of roads that runs along cliffs and canyons.
Côte d'Azur: Located along the cliffside coast of France facing the Mediterranean Sea, passing through a fishing village.
Monte Carlo: A network of roads within the sideside city, with some of them forming part of Circuit de Monaco. There are 5 combinations of Monte Carlo tracks featured in Porsche Unleashed, sharing parts of the same road layout and each numbering between 1 to 5.
Normandie: A rural area passing vast farmland, small farming communities and canyons.
Pyrénées: A rural area passing vineyards, a château and mountainous cliffs.
Schwarzwald: A trail through forests and logging establishments.
Zone Industrielle: A run down industrial park and harbor.

Need for Speed: Top Speed

An additional online-only conversion of Porsche Unleashed, dubbed Need for Speed: Top Speed, was released in response to both the release of MacGillivray Freeman's 2002 IMAX film, Top Speed, and the Porsche Cayenne. The game features three existing tracks from Porsche Unleashed (which names have been changed to refer to locations in Canada, as the sponsorship of Travel Alberta (Canada) concluded),[citation needed] and three Porsche vehicles: the 911 (996) Turbo, the 959 and the Cayenne Turbo.

Access to Need for Speed: Top Speed was bundled alongside the Windows version of Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2.

Racing Modes

Circuit

Circuit is a standard race that involves racing with up to four opponents cars around a loop track for two laps or more, and is the main mode of the game.

A variant of Circuit is Knockout, which, similar to previous Need for Speed titles, involves "knocking out" the last racer who passes the starting line in each lap until the final leader of the race remains, and wins the race. In the case of Underground, Knockout sessions have a maximum of three laps for four racers.

Sprint

Sprint mode is a variation on the Circuit mode, where the contestants race in a point-to-point track instead of loop tracks. These races are typically shorter than "circuits" (with a maximum of 8 km in length), so players are required to be more cautious of any mistakes during racing.

Drift

Drifting is one of the most challenging and technical aspects of the game. Drift mode consists of one player in a short loop track, where the objective is to collect as many points as possible by drifting along the track. The player competes with three other contestants, who appear to accumulate scores along with the player during the drift session. The player would be required to beat these scores in order to obtain top positions.

Bonuses are awarded for players who drift in the other borders of the track, drift vertically, or perform chained-drifting (continuous drifting by constantly steering the vehicle during drifts to maintain speed); if the player succeeds in ending a drift without collisions onto the sides of the track, the collected points are added into the score, otherwise, the collected points are cancelled.

Drift mode is the only type of racing where time taken to complete the track does not matter, since players are given the freedom to complete the allocated number laps at their own pace. This may explain the absence of nitrous oxide in this mode, since it serves no suitable purpose in this situation.

Drag Racing

Drag racing is the second most technical form of race in the game. It involves racing against three cars on typically straight tracks, and attempting to obtain top positions to win. In order to master Drag mode, players must employ good timing and reflexes for gear shifting, redlining, overtaking, and the use of nitrous oxide boosts; the mode places particular emphasis in monitoring the tachometer during races, which is enlarged and situated on the leftmost portion of the screen. Steering in this mode is simplified to simply allow for lane changes, while the computer handles the steering along the lanes, and the player focuses more on maintaining an optimum speed for the car.

Two conditions will result to players being forfeited during a drag race: head-on collisions with a vehicle (traffic or opponent), barrier or divider>; or blown engines as a result from prolonged redlining and the subsequent overheating of the engine.
